Firefox crashes upon launch on Android tablet
We have close to 600 Android Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablets that have Firefox 16.02 installed. Starting last night almost everyone of them is getting a Firefox has crashed message upon launch. We have tried to upgrade them to 18 but that does not resolve it. So far, the only thing we have found to resolve it is to clear the application data, which in turn wipes all settings and bookmarks.
Chosen solution
At this moment, a uninstall and then installing it back is the resolution. Thanks for your patience.

This is a very weird issue. I will flag this for attention.. Also, just out of curiosity - how do you have 600 tablets?
I work for a company that utilizes the tablets for our field personnel. They all have tablets instead of laptops, so they do everything on these. We had to switch from the Android browser to Firefox due to some compatibility issues, so it is very important that we get to the bottom of this.
If there is a way I can pull a crash log from a tablet let me know. I have tried to find one buy have not had any success.
Thanks, Donald
Type about:crashes into the url bar, and copy the crash id's here.
I will see if we can do that, but the problem is that the application crashes before we can type anything in the url bar. It normally opens and immediately crashes. Let me try a few tablets and I will get back to you.
I have tried a few tablets and cannot get Firefox to stay up long enough to type anything in the url bar. Below are two screen captures of what we are seeing. The crash page does say it is sending a crash report to mozilla.
We're tracking this in http://bugzil.la/838603. It is well known in our crash-reports. Stay tuned for updates.
Thank you for the info. We have implemented a fix on our end that clears the application data for all of our users. This seems to be working for now, but has the drastic side effect of clearing all prefs, bookmarks and settings. We had to made a quick call and determine what was more critical, and decided to run with this option. I am looking forward to the updates.
Yep, clearing the profile will fix it too. Cheers.
I'm not sure what you mean by "clearing the profile". Can you tell me how to do that versus clearing application data?
Exactly the same thing; application data includes the profile and cache.
Aaron, if you do have any additional information to provide besides the resolution you found please post on the bug so it may assist the team working on it. Thanks!

A very unfortunate mistake, but I appreciate all the feedback and updates from everyone.
Hello again,
We've pushed out an update to Firefox on Google Play (which will appear within the hour) should you decide to upgrade your tablets from Firefox 16 to Firefox 18.
