I did not know where to send a suggestions, so am posting it here. Please redirect this to the appropriate place.

When I shut down windows and firefox is running with multiple tabs, it pops up a dialog box and prevents windows from shutting down. Last Friday I set the computer to shutdown before leaving work and found that it was still on when I returned to work on Monday. Reason - Firefox.

I prefer to shutdown computers when I am away for extended period of time to save power.

Thanks. I had seen that but had forgotten about it. I still liked the feature of the box popping up while closing multiple tabs, and was hoping there was a way firefox could distinguish when it was being terminated by the user and when it was being signaled by the OS to quit, and behave differently.

Thank you for the reply, I'll use that - for now.

If Firefox can tell the difference between Firefox Exit and Windows Shutdown.

Firefox should have Two more options; (in Tools>Options>Tabs)

2ᴺᴰ option should only available if 1ˢᵗ option is not checked.

❏ Automatically save multiple tabs when Firefox is Exited?
❏ Automatically save multiple tabs when Windows is Shutting Down?
(If not checked, Windows shutdown will halt, waiting for Firefox save prompt.)

If not:

Warn me when closing multiple tab. Should include warning

(If selected, Window will not shutdown until you respond to "save multiple tab" prompt.)

Normally most people want to be prompted, however if windows is/needs to shutdown, then just save the tabs and shutdown!

For other people with this issue but the problem is not the Multiple Tab Dialog.. Do you have AVG installed? The safesearch plugin seems not to exit gracefully when windows sends the 'i need to shut you down asap' window message.

  • If you close FF normally in advance (hit X), it will close.
  • If you have FF open and execute a windows restart, FF will hang. You can cancel the restart, and try to close FF manually, but it will be frozen. The only way to close it is to kill the task.

The issue is caused by AVG Safe Search addon. (not the AVG Toolbar)

This is accurate as of 6/11/2011...FF4 hopefully AVG will resolve it soon.

Cheers
