Hello, I downloaded thunderbird on my new laptop via wifi/lan. Thunderbird POP 3 was running on my desktop. During the IMAP insallation it messed up Thunderbird on the desktop which was not working anymore. After setting it up for IMAP my.magenta servers (T-Mobile) I can receive messages but cant send, SMTP SERVER TIMED OUT. I am using webmail now. As I can see there are no more POP entries in the CONFIG file. I sent screenshots to magenta and E-Mails about three Weeks ago about the SMTP issue but never received a reply, meaning they don't know nothing about it. My main problem is the laptop: All settings are o.k. for the magenta servers but I seen in CONFIG that there is not one entry for magenta but I counted 10 POP strings. Error message THIS IS NOT AN IMAP SERVER Anfortunately Thunderbird is not making a complet new installation as long as it can find any old insallation on the commputer or any computer on the network no matter if it is a funktinal one or not. I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinsalled it on both, but no change what so ever. except for loosing all stored data. Is there a way to change the profile and correct the CONFIG ? OS for desktop is Windows 7 and the HP laptop has Windows 10. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, Alf

I'm not going to guess what 'was not working anymore' means. It is rather unlikely that downloading TB on one computer has any impact on a TB installation on a different computer.

After setting it up for IMAP my.magenta servers (T-Mobile) I can receive messages but cant send, SMTP SERVER TIMED OUT.

I have no idea what that means. You'd need to be more specific.

All settings are o.k. for the magenta servers but I seen in CONFIG that there is not one entry for magenta

What are you talking about? Please post your Troubleshooting Information for the laptop computer. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the "Copy text to clipboard button" and paste the information into your reply.

Error message THIS IS NOT AN IMAP SERVER

What are you doing when you get that message? Is that the entire error message? A screenshot may help. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Profile files are stored separately from the Thunderbird program files. The program files are static and do not change (except when you upgrade the Thunderbird application version). Because we store profile and program files separately, you can uninstall Thunderbird without losing your messages and settings, and if something goes wrong with a Thunderbird update your information will still be available. It also means that you don't have to reinstall Thunderbird in order to delete your information or troubleshoot a problem. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data

I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinsalled it on both, but no change what so ever. except for loosing all stored data.

What does 'loosing all stored data' mean exactly?
