Hello,

I am quite frustrated. I have been working on solving two issues for a very long time. My brain is a little disabled but I still have to solve all problems myself. Please help me if you can. The issues are:

1. with settings on password remembrance. I get logged out of many websites that claim that everything is right with their set up. On some websites I am not getting logged out.

 The settings I have tried in Firefox (latest version both on Windows 10 and on Android 9) has been "never clear cookies" , "clear cookies after each session" with exceptions for all the current websites. I have allowed everything. If this issue derives from the websites setup they would have had many more complains than mine. That´s why I have to turn to Mozilla.

2. I run Firefox on windows 10 and on Android. Isn´t the browser meant to sync on website content like the above mentioned ? Logins and other data left on each websites from previous login ?

If I get help from the forum I will definitely donate to Mozilla. /Gechen

Chosen solution

Only usernames and passwords are synced to other devices as part of syncing Logins. Cookies like special 'remember me' cookies aren't part of Sync and are always local to a specific profile.

Detail like websites remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:

  • create a cookie allow exception with the proper protocol (https:// or http://) to make a website remember you

You can check that you aren't clearing important cookies.

  • using "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" keeps cookies with an allow exception
  • using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies clears all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Exceptions/Permissions"

Your ‘logged-in’ status is stored in special cookies. If the cookie is removed, you are logged out.

You may be in Private Browsing mode or told Firefox not to remember.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar. The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

Turn off Always Use Private Browsing Mode Turn on Remember My Browsing And Download History At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

Macs: Make sure you install Firefox properly and that you do not run Firefox from within the DMG (Disk Images) file. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Thanks alot for both answers. I´ve now changed the settings according to your describtion and have understood that sync activities are limited. I can explore this more later on. However, I am sorry to say that the first issue with being logged out from certain websites did not solve the problem!. As I wrote in the first question I am logged in to a number of sites. The issue is with certain other sites. They are maybe three sites that I am logged out from every time I close the browser (sites I visit quite often). On one of the sites Firefox asks me if I want to save the login, to which I answer yes of course. Yet it is not saved! The other two (both from same domain) firefox does not even ask if I want to save the login. I am cluless. /Gechen

Profile data can be removed or not recorded in several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings; (In the address bar, type about:preferences#privacy<enter>)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers
    Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.
