I wanted to go back to 80 because I didn't like 81. When I dl'd & installed 80, it told me that I had to make a new profile, otherwise my bookmarks might be corrupted. I did that, but now all my bookmarks & extensions are gone. Help!!!

SOLUTION:

I went into the profile manager, switched profiles (there were 3 in there) until I found the one that had my bookmarks & extensions in it. I made THAT profile the default & removed the other profiles. But I did not delete the files for those profiles.

Hi, what didn't you like about Firefox 81 compared with Firefox 80? Maybe it's something easy to fix?

Although it isn't guaranteed to work, there is a way to force Firefox to use an older profile. I have not tried it myself, but it is mentioned in the following article: Dedicated profiles per Firefox installation.

Right now the fact that I didn't like FF81 is kind of a moot point since all my bookmarks & extensions are gone. I cannot access the previous profile per the article in the link, because it gives me the same message that doesn't allow me to do it unless I create a new profile! (See attached screen grab.)

So I still can't get my stuff back.

Hmm, is it really a moot point, or would installing Firefox 81 solve this problem?

As noted earlier, I have not used the --allow-downgrade command line switch myself so I don't know how it works. You might run a web search and see whether people have reported success with it.

As I mentioned in my original email, it's already been downgraded to 80. How is updating to 81 (a version I didn't like) going to solve my problem of missing bookmarks & extensions?

If you would update/install to Firefox 81 then it will likely use or allow you to use the profile that has your lost data.

Updated to 81. I still don't have my bookmarks back. This sucks.

Are you at least using or able to use the original profile with your bookmarks and other personal data ?

Yes, I'm glad you found that extra step.

What was it about Firefox 81 that caused you to downgrade before, or do you want to start a new question for that?

By process of elimination (trying each profile) I was able to determine which was the original profile. It seems to have all the personal data, books marks, etc.
