Firefox current version will not run my html code located on my PC
Current version of FF:
I have html code from a previous, old, project that did run on an office intranet that used Firefox as our internet browser. It's totally basic html. I've tried to get the html code to run on my PC on this current FF browser and it just does not, nor are there any error codes. WHY?
My html has exactly the same opening and closing items as you can see in the book on html for "Dummies."
I need to see the code in operation so I can update to a new project I'm starting. What do I do?
If anyone wants to see my code, I'll gladly post it.

Did you check the Web Console for possible error messages ?
- "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Web Developer

You can enclose the HTML code in PRE tags (<pre> .... </pre>) if you want to post it.
The web console has the following, but they don't apply to my html because I don't have any zoom nor is there any calc going on: "This page uses the non standard property “zoom”. Consider using calc() in the relevant property values, or using “transform” along with “transform-origin: 0 0”. 1298906 Some cookies are misusing the recommended “sameSite“ attribute 7 " I'll try another run and look at the console.
I tried running my code again and nothing happened. I went into the web console and it showed nothing except my code in all green. None of the selection had any remarks or errors shown. I admit I don't know about the web console, I have never noticed it until you mentioned it. I don't know if it existed in the old days when I was writing the html, but the code is so basic I never had any problems other than a forgotten opening or closing item.
I still am not getting my html to run. I tried the File Open File on the Firefox menu and when I clicked open the file name appeared in the url box as this: file:///C:/Users/tpk1/Documents/LabNews/Top_lvl.htm When I hit Enter, nothing happens, nothing on the page, no error messages, BUT, when I opened the Console, I found the following, but I have no idea what it means or what to do about it:

This time I found and picked my code up in the Firefox File Open File selection which put my file name in the url box. I hit Enter and nothing showed on screen. I have no idea what this means nor what to do about it. I've been away from html programming for about 23 years which is when I wrote this code.

When you open a html file locally then you can't go back beyond the root location where the main html file resides for security reasons, so a file path like "..\icon\bg.gif" with backslashes won't work won't work and you need to use "/icon/bg.gif" with forward slashes and move the files to a sub folder in the HTML file root location.

I've made the change plus another that the "Inspector" shows red high light on, but not "Console".
Here are the new html code:

The "Inspector has in red these two words: lang in this: <html lang="en"> AND style in this: <BODY style="BACKGROUND: url (/icon/bg.gif"> </body>
Since I have the </body> up here with BODY style, I did a </body> at the very bottom of the code like this: <!/BODY> </HTML>
It is NOT complained about in the "Inspector"

I've looked up both in the HTML Language Code Ref and both are correct in that guide. When I run the code in Firefox, it's still the same, nothing shows.

You are missing the closing ')' for the url() property value.

Should be: <BODY style="background: url(/icon/bg.gif)"> </body>
Hi Patrick, since you said you just need to see the old page, I have a suggestion:
Try opening this ancient page in Internet Explorer. On Windows 10, it's a bit hidden, but if you type iex in the system search box (usually on the Taskbar) Windows should show its familiar icon on the Start menu.
You'll want to start your new page from scratch anyway, so it probably doesn't make sense to spend more time trying to make the old page viewable in modern browsers.

I tried both old html code and the new html and the old IE did not run either. When I had Windows XP on my last PC, a Dell 14 years old, it ran old html it just fine.
I wanted to see the old code so i could, quick like a bunny, so to speak, just modify it, cut out the stuff not needed and see what I have then as a basic start to the new presentation I'm hoping to have out.
I hope I'm not beating this to death, but I've not written any html in probably 25 years when I wrote this old code.

Nope, The Console doesn't show anything. The Inspector is still showing red on the word "lang" in and on the word style in this: I've tried to run this in this current FF version and in the old Internet explored as jscher suggested with the same no result. Pat

On another issue, in the old code I had background and the numeric for the color that does not work so I cut it out. I've been all through w3schools.com "THE WORLD'S LARGEST WEB DEVELOPER SITE" https://www.w3schools.com/ looking for the proper code to make a background for the entire page(s) and all I've found is:

Which does a heading and paragraph.
We've gone over this: <BODY style="background: url(/icon/bg.gif)"> </body> but it is not being displayed but the bg.gif is in the sub-directory /icon.
As an alternative, I wanted to color the entire page and <style> just doesn't do it. Has this been killed off in these later versions of html?
