Hi FF Family,

I have recently had to uninstall and reinstall firefox and I've had a number of issues.

1) I cannot use the "bookmark all tabs" option anymore. When I have a certain number of tabs open it stops just short of scrolling all the way down. Leaving the bottom of the bookmarks pop up open with the rest unavabile to reach.

2) It will not save any of my history and yes I have checked the "Remember browsing and download history" and the "Remember search and form history" and it still has not saved my history of any sites.

3) Previously if i had a tab up it would inform me of the website on that tab and take me there if i tried to search that same article, video, etc. For example is I had a tab already open of Kobe Bryant highlights (R.I.P.) then if i tried to type that same video in another tab it would lead me to the tab I already have opened. It currently isn't doing that. (Example Below)

4) In the history tab at the top it show a short history of sites I went to before the reinstall but it won't update for new sites. So there has to be a file somewhere keeping that information. I want to find it.

5)Finally a lot of the issues I've described I haven't found a simple solution for that involves MacBooks. So if anyone has an answer please tell me step by step what I should do in the Mac version.

I use Firefox to do a lot of legal research and I normally have anywhere from 25-50 tabs up from different statutes, cases, articles, etc. I need help so I can effectively research without constantly searching through each tab and never being able to bookmark or save anything.

Thank you.

You can still do "Bookmark All Tabs" via the tab bar context menu, but this requires two steps by using the multiple tab select feature. You first need to select all tabs via the Tab context menu and then use "Bookmark Tabs" to bookmark all selected tab.

You can select multiple tabs in the usual way for selecting items:

  • use "Select All Tabs" in the tab context menu to select all tabs
  • use Shift-click -> Range of tabs
  • use Ctrl/Command -> Individual tab, works as a toggle

What you describe could be a problem with a corrupted places.sqlite database.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This issue can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

1) "bookmark all tabs" was moved out of the Tab Context Menu system, now you need to use Bookmarks on the Menu Bar and then use the Bookmark All Tabs menu item there, or use the {Command + Shft + D} keyboard combination (for MacOSX).
That thru me for a loop in Firefox 77 when it was removed from the Tab Context Menu - used it everyday.

Sorry, that's all I can comment about - I don't "do Mac OSX".

Thank you. I tried that and it still doesn't work so I think it's something else I just don't know what. So if it's about five tabs the "bookmarks all tabs" works fine. Over that I get the glitch that you saw in the picture.

Sorry, I didn't recognize that almost blank "box" in your screenshot. On my old 32-bit Win7 OS that "New Bookmarks" dialog box using {Ctrl + Shft + D} displays the older separate "window" that can be dragged around; since Win7 is officially EOL now, Mozilla may not have "fixed it", but did for Win10 - ? -? I just tried saving "6 tabs" to a new Bookmarks Folder, but with the separate window the individual tabs don't appear. I have no idea what the newer UI for that even looks like.

Perhaps you have a userChrome.css script that is used in conjunction to the "Dark Theme" in Firefox that is messing with your selected Theme.

Beyond that, you need a support contributor who used Mac OSX or is familiar with it to help you further in this thread. Sorry, that's about it for me trying to help you.

I checked the verify integrity tabs and places.sqlite was corrupted. I followed instructions and now all my bookmarks are back and its keeping track of my history. Thanks everyone!!
