How can I open a link in firefox when all profiles are already open?

more options

I have two profiles in Firefox. I am using Ubuntu 19.10. When I have both profiles open and try to click a link in another application (or run `firefox https://mozilla.org` from a terminal), I get an error "Firefox is already running but not responding...". I just want the link to open in one of my profiles.

I don't know Ubuntu, but for what it's worth, I can respond about how it works on Windows:

Starting in Firefox 67, Firefox normally will open external links in the Firefox running your "default profile" as currently defined in profiles.ini/installs.ini, even if you started Firefox in a different profile. But this assumes you started Firefox in that profile normally and not using the -no-remote command line switch which can prevent external links from being launched in that instance of Firefox.

If I understand correctly, you're suggesting I check whether my Firefox instances have been launched with the -no-remote flag. Is that correct?

I just checked and the original Firefox has been launched with no command-line arguments, and I opened the second Firefox using the about:profiles page.
