A Norton pop-up began blocking me from a malicious page, which is not malicious. This is what the page address looks like: Extension.... Safe Web) moz-extension://d4810f8a-e29b-471b-ae89-97e217f96413/content/ui/blockedPage.html?originalURL=https://cs18.uhcloud.com:2096/&reportURL=https://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=https://cs18.uhcloud.com:2096/&ulang=en&blockPageType=malicious&continueToSiteURL=https://cs18.uhcloud.com:2096/

It began a few days ago, and comes up about twice a day. I haven't detected any pattern, yet. Last time, after i had shut down the blocked and blocking pages, i spoke to a Norton tech who confirmed that my webmail page was safe, suggesting that it was "probably" a browser issue. Has anyone else experienced such a weird glitch?

Hi josephravick, I assume Norton provides the list and criteria for pages it blocks. I don't think it would happen if you disable the extension.

I wonder whether it is related to the address connecting on port 2096 instead of the more common ports 80 (HTTP) or 443 (HTTPS)?

See the about:debugging page for the UUID used by WebExtensions.

Thanks, jscher2000. They do, but there is no "moz" extension i can find anywhere on my computer. When it happened, they did check the website moz was blocking and said it was perfectly safe. The blocked website was my host server.

moz-extension:// is like http:// for add-on pages, so that doesn't tell you its actual name. Judging from your original post, the Add-on's name ends with Safe Web.

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.

Then scan down the right side for potential culprits. Each extension has a little "power switch" to enable/disable it.

Thanks i'll try what you've suggested; very helpful.

Tried it but all i found was Norton Safe Search and Safe Web installed, from what i could find. I disabled both and will see if that makes a difference. The Norton technician said the problem wasn't with their software; now i'll test that out.

The "block" happened several times over the weekend and i have learned that if i restart the Firefox browser the problem clears up and i can access my HU webmail pages.

Thanks for your help, cheers, joseph

Did you check the "This Firefox" tab on the about:debugging page ?

That should list all installed extensions with the UUID used with the moz-extension:// and with the ID as present on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page.

I don't know what you mean by "This Firefox" tab on the about:debugging page." Where do i find the about:debugging page?

BTW, the Norton block just came up again when i went to check my email, including the notifying email from Firefox forum. Again when i wanted to open emails. So i turned off the "Norton Safe Web" extension and it cleared up.

You can open "about:" pages via the location/address bar

  • "about:" is a protocol to access special pages

Thanks. I found what you were referring to and turned on my Safe Web extension and so far no problems. But it did that before so i'll try it a few more times before i know the fix worked. Will let you know. Thanks again.

The Norton Safe Web extension is the problem. I've run a number of tests and it always comes back to this option. I've disabled the extension and the problem has disappeared. If i'm just cruising the internet i will enable the protection then disable it again. I will also contact Norton. Thanks for trying to help. I appreciate the efforts. Cheers.
