When I updated Thunderbird to Ver. 68, all default screen, type, etc changed. I have never had this occur with an update. From what I read on the Community Board, it is not a simple procedure to change the settings. I have advised my friends to NOT update to Ver. 68 and to try another client for email. What were the software nerds thinking?????

re :From what I read on the Community Board, it is not a simple procedure to change the settings.

You seem to lacking knowledge, so here is some info. Thunderbird comes with two themes plus the default theme with your OS colour scheme. Obviously you are using the Dark theme, so select another option.

Menu app icon > Addons > Addons > 'Themes' Click on 'Enable' button of another theme to see how it looks.

There is till the ability to customise using code but suggest you check out the different themes first.

re :Forgot to say that the font size changed also. I've answered this many times recently as some people have experienced a change and others have not. I'm surprised you did not see any of the postings :) Font size depends upon so many different settings on computer.

Thunderbird has introduced a means of adjustment for those effected, so that dependency on addons is no longer needed. Yehar:)

Using 'Windows OS': If you use the hamburger Menu icon on the 'Mail Toolbar':

  • Menu icon > Options > Options > Advanced > 'General' tab

If you use the top 'Menu Bar' toolbar:

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > 'General' tab
  • click on 'Config Editor' button.

You may see a friendly warning accept the risk.

  • In search type : pixels
  • look for this line: layout.css.devPixelsPerPx

the default value is -1.0

  • double click on that line to open a small window OR right-click the preference and select 'Modify' which allows you to change the 'Value'
  • You can try values such as 1.20 or 1.25 or 1.5
  • click on 'OK'

I'm using the 'Light' theme by choice.

I've just realised that although you posted a question & comment, it was not really phrased as a question.

So I'm not sure whether you wanted information or not, although it seemed somewhat obvious that you needed help.

But, just in case you did not expect help... as a heads up this is not a chat forum for random comments.

Also, you can always check out what the update includes before updating. Here is the link for version 68 release notes: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/68.0/releasenotes/

Thank you Toad-Hall. You are correct in that I was ignorant of the options available. As a senior citizen I am accustomed to updates saving settings and not changing everything. While my post was a rant, it was also seeking help which you thoughtfully provided.

You have solved my problem and will pass your suggestions to other users here at the retirement community who have similar problems.

Thank you again - the Angel of Mercy.
