After a recent update I have lost spellcheck and my default text colour. In settings these are still working but not active in use. How do I restore them.

After a recent update I have now lost spell check on my email messages. The colour for text has returned to black. I have checked settings and this shows spell check is ticked. But it is not working. I can't set the text to default to the colour of choice. This has to be done every time I start a new message. Again in settings I have tried to reset to default but not working. It all worked fine until the programme update. Please understand I have little computer technical knowledge. If has taken me ages to find this opportunity to ask the questions. So I will need some simple guidance if help is available. But this will be appreciated. I feel very brave even pressing the 'post question' button! Many thanks

You probably need to update your spellcheck dictionary. Click 'Download Dictionary' for your language(s) here:

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/language-tools/

On the dictionary page, right-click the Download Now button, Save Link as..., and download the xpi file. In TB, Tools/Add-ons/Extensions, click the gear icon under the search box, Install Add-on From file..., select the xpi file. The dictionary should appear under Tools/Add-ons/Dictionaries.

Tools/Options/Composition/General, uncheck 'Use reader's default colors', then click the Text Color button and set the color. On the Spelling tab, set your spellcheck preferences.

Thank you so much for your reply. It took me a while to figure out how to make the changes but that is only because I have little experience in sorting out technical stuff. Although I realise these issues were basic.

But problems seem to be rectified. I even have an English Dictionary now instead of an American/English version.

Your assistance is appreciated.

I have a similar problem:

Before the latest TB update to 68.4, the complete TAG toolbar was available automatically at all levels from message to folder.

With the update, I had to

  1. Numbered list item search for a button to reveal the list of Tags
  2. Numbered list item find a toolbar to move the button to
  3. Numbered list item pressress the button every time I wanted to add/subtract a tag from the currently-selected message.

How do I get back to the previous version of Thunderbird which I had been using quite satisfactorily for several years?

If you are referring to Tag Toolbar, there is a version for TB 68:

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/tag-toolbar/

and a newer beta version:
