wetransfer is installed with Thunderbird. Bundled with it on windows as part of the filelink process. What the maintainers on your distro have done there I have no idea. They tend to pull out add-on on linux butthey might have seen the light.

I have the wetransfer installed on Windows, but it simply does not appearing the add-on manager, it appears in options (that would be edit preferences on Linux I assume)> Attachments > outgoing., along with the option to add more providers and to remove it. It is not related to enigmail as far as I am aware.

Matt, thank you for response. I looked at last update and figure wetransfer was added on 20191201. Doesn't explain the mass outgoing traffic a few days back. Wetransfer was the easy scapegoat since I had not seen it before. My computer has been jacked before(no fun) so I try to keep min info and max hardening. Thanks for the info and I'll keep looking for the culprit.

Oh, by the way, a firefox question... when I press the download button in taskbar to look at files downloaded and then press on the folder icon representing the file I want to open, it automatically tries to open the file with xfburn. Is there a location in firefox I can change this to open the file in its location with thunar(equal to explorer)? Have searched through OS settings and no joy. Traveled through the settings pref and options in firefox=nojoy. Any ideas?

I am no expert, but my understanding is file opens are passed out of both Firefox and Thunderbird to the operating system. As least that is what I got from Bug 1601905 when it bit the other day for windows users.

So basically you will be looking to change the default used by your distro I think, not changing a program default..

Matt, you must be an expert, or a geanie :) I can right click on downloads folder and it now gives me the option of "opening containing folder". Didn't do that before. I must have jiggled something while playing with preferences and it fell in place. Dunno. It works now is all am woriied about.

How does wetransfer work in thunderbird? Where's the menu item?

It is in filelink settings in options> Attachments > outgoing.

On linux mint (64-Bit), running thunderbird 68.4.1 (64-Bit), i was able to remove the deactivated wetransfer add-on like this:

1. Closed TB

2. removed /usr/lib/thunderbird/'wetransfer@extensions.thunderbird.net.xpi'

3. removed the following object from file {TB-ProfileFolder}/extension-preferences.json :

"wetransfer@extensions.thunderbird.net": {"permissions":

["internal:privateBrowsingAllowed"],
"origins":[]

},

4. removed a very large object from file {TB-ProfileFolder}/extensions.json : beginning with

{"id":"wetransfer@extensions.thunderbird.net", .... }

5. After restart of TB, the add-on was gone.

What happened when you go to the attachments > outgoing after to force remove something that was present during testing as it is part of the install package? I doubt that has had any testing at all.

It happened that wetransfer is gone there also.

No, I was just curious if it would do weird things without a filelink provider installed. Given that the one you removed is included with the installation I though it might actually break something.
