Is it possible to force Firefox to always show a print preview before printing?

more options

I administer public access computers in a library. We use Firefox as our default browser.

Frequently, when patrons print things from the web, the printouts do not come out the way they expect (many people do not know about Print Preview).

Is there a way to force Firefox to always show a print preview before printing? For example, when pressing Ctrl+P, show a print preview instead of the print dialog.

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to change this behavior (to make Firefox show print preview instead of the print dialog, esp in the case of control + p being pressed) but it has been noted on bugzilla as an enhancement option that people would be interested in.

It might help encourage adoption of option if you submit feedback. You can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues or annoyances people might have.

Thanks evhenry. Do you think it would help if I posted on the Bugzilla thread too?

I think it would be more useful to submit feedback than post on the bugzilla thread, as it is relatively old, plus I already posted in it with your specific use-case being a useful option (library admin trying to prevent wasting paper). :)

Thanks for doing that! I've submitted the feedback.

There are some extension that deal with Print Preview that you can consider to install.

It is possible to hide the Print item in the File menu via userChrome.css, but that wouldn't prevent people from using Ctrl+P

I'm thinking of situations where a website will have a "Print" button, which invokes the JavaScript "print" function, which causes Firefox to display the print dialog. I would rather Firefox display a print preview when the "print" function is called.
