I am completely stumped. I can't synch my new Firefox to the old because I don't use a smartphone, and I can't figure out how to get back to the old version.

more options

I can home to find this new version on my computer. I tried following the directions to synch my information, but I don't use a smartphone (I don't want one) and thus the process stopped. I have Firefox open right now (I closed the new version) but I can't click through from Thunderbird, and I have no idea what will happen when I close it. I have no idea if there is a separate new installation (I can't find it on my C: drive, just the one installation) and I will lose a lot of information if I close the old application and the new one pops up. I suppose the question boil down to, first, how do I get back to the old version, or how can I synchronize without a smartphone? This has to be the most disruptive upgrade I have ever seen.

Hi dviznana, after you have connected one installation of Firefox to your account, use the steps in the following article for the other installation:

Hi William Smith, if you want to connect a new "desktop" (PC, Mac, Laptop) installation of Firefox to an existing Firefox Account, you shouldn't need a smartphone.

Before going further, could you clarify the situation:

(A) Firefox started up without your data, and you closed it

(B) Then Firefox started up with your data, and you don't want to close it because you are concerned it will then be removed

Is that the status?

I think what's happening is that Firefox has multiple profiles. Profiles are individual settings folders in your Windows user profile (not under C:\Program Files\). To make sure you don't lose data, before closing Firefox, you can make a copy of your profile folder. Allow me to elaborate:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

If this is the profile you definitely want to keep, the "Root" line shows the folder to back up. Since it is on a hidden path, you may want to set Windows to show hidden files and folders:

This article also might help: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Thanks for the response, but that isn't the case. I came home to what purported to be a completely new Firefox that did not synch with my old data. I know think it was an attack of some sort, and I will delete and reinstall, and save the profile.

If that doesn't work, I will use a backup and restore my C drive.

I need the installation to my iPhone removed or delete the hole installation. I cannot proceed to email while installation is froze.

I need the techs to stop installation of program.

Surely you can get this done without me uninstalling Firefox?

Just got a message on my phone: that is the one that is froze. That is what I have been telling you. If the techs can't uninstall a program that is froze then I guess uninstall Firefox and not use it. my phone is [phone number removed. Please see Mozilla Support rules and guidelines] It is a shame.

Mozilla doesn't install Firefox for iOS on your iPhone, but Firefox can text you a link to install it from the AppStore. If you installed Firefox on your iPhone, you should be able to remove it just like any other app.

What is frozen?? If your desktop version of Firefox -- Windows, Mac, or Linux -- is non-responsive, you may need to crash it and start it again. But maybe you just need to launch a new window (Ctrl+n or on Mac, Command+n). It's not really clear from your question what is going on.

I cannot find out to synch my laptop with my desktop without a smartphone.

IS THERE A WAY TO DO THIS?

I think it is short-sighted if there is no way to synch without a smartphone and am frustrated by this.
