How do I setup Thunderbird to send E-mails via a website link?

I already have it setup for my administrator account. I have a problem using it when logged into my standard user account on the same laptop computer. It seems to work fine when I log in as administrator using the standard account. I send, receive e-mails as normal. I cannot send e-mails using a website e-mail hyperlink. Attached is what screen I see. What is the best and easiest way to handle this problem?

Hi That sounds strange. To be clear, please confirm - When logged in as user, you can send and receive emails in Thunderbird, but not from a link? When logged in as Administrator, you can send and receive, and you can also send from a hyperlink? It is odd that the Account Wizard is only offering to set up a Newsgroup account, implying the email account is set up just fine. A few things may be going on, and I am no expert. One might be that the website link is not configured correctly, if this only happens on certain sites. I checked the website you referred to - and my security software reports that their contact link (in the footer of their page) is infected with a phishing virus. If you go here https://www.tascaparts.com/contact-us and click on the 'email us' link - do you get the same result, or do you get a send mail with tcp@tasca.com in the To field? Are there other websites that also bring up the Create Account wizard when you click on a MailTo link? Then, if the difference is the user account can't do this but Administrator can, that may be in your Windows settings, or in security settings. It sounds as if your user account is not permitted to run a program from a hyperlink - but I would expect a UAC prompt in that case. Again, odd that the link seems to start the account wizard but it offers only a Newsgroup account. Sorry I can't be more help, but perhaps my musings will spark an idea. Agnes

Answers to your questions:

1) Correct- works right using admin. acct. (I can send from a hyperlink)

   but not std. user account.

2) It behaves the same way on all websites (getting message as shown

    attachment I sent when clicking hyperlinks).  

3) I do not see anything in footer about phishing malware. I don't see

    anything in the "To" Field- just the message attachment I sent you.

4) All websites I've been on are bringing up the create account wizard.

 I would like for you to forward these threads to someone that has experience with this type of problem if you could- or you can continue to help me out.  I really do  appreciate your help.

Please clarify. In the standard computer 'user account': Confirm you started Thunderbird and created mail accounts. So the standard 'User Account' does have a thunderbird profile created.

Hello- I can start Thunderbird as "run as administrator". I get a screen as shown in attachment when I just open (not run as administrator). I am fairly sure that there is a profile for the standard user account which is in the name of Sam. What do I need to try to do? P.S. I want to open Thunderbird as "run as administrator" only because it is password protected.

Thunderbird is clearly installed, but it has not been configured for the user account in windows that you are using.

Thunderbird has a profile folder stored in the appdata folder of the user account in windows. so you will either need to modify the setting to use a location accessible to all accounts (this will cause security issues with almost all non administrator accounts unless you actively manage access to the locations, or you will need to configure Thunderbird for the email accounts that the user account will be using.

I have the same problem since updating to Thunderbird 68.2.2

However I am using Thunderbird Portable. I have always had this issue, but the 'work around' was to have Thunderbird running, that way the mailto links would open with a new compose message window. It does not matter in my case if I am an admin or not.

However, sadly I that 'work around' does not work anymore :(

Can anyone help?
