Original from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/cam866/stop_recommending_me_shit_firefox_68/. So, I'm totally agree with author and want to know - will Mozilla remove this s..t from extensions bar in future releases or maybe give us a way to disable it? Now there is only about:config key that helps to disable it so we definitely need some tick in settings to completely turn this recommendations off.

Currently, the fix is to use the about:config key to disable. I will pass this onto the proper team as feedback. Thank you for bringing this up.

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page.

  • extensions.htmlaboutaddons.recommendations.enabled = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

There is a checkbox to change from personalized recommendations to general recommendations. There's a section on that in this article: Personalized extension recommendations.

But there isn't a checkbox for "no recommendations on the Add-ons page at all."

Is that a page you view frequently?

I think that there is some confusion. What you see on the about:addons page are the Recommmendations you see in the first tab. With the redesign of this page from XUL to XHTML they also show recommendations in the extension and in the themes section.

I think that the Recommend choices you see on about:profiles (Options/Preferences -> Browsing) are about recommendations on pages like the Firefox home page because these check boxes control activity stream (AS) prefs related to Contextual Feature Recommender (CFR). CFR is about showing suggestions when you visit specific websites or use specific features like you get with the UI tour (part of Firefox Messaging).
