By "narrowing" a "search" for answers, I meant that adding more search terms should RESTRICT the returns to those articles that have ALL the terms; On this site, though, adding terms returns ALL the articles that have ANY of them. (Try it; the subject line is the string returned by the search. Apparently there are 1015 articles with the word necrophilia in them. I thought it was funny. Still makes me giggle :-)

Google allows such "narrowing" in a search (even phrases!) , and can restrict a search to a specific website, e.g. this one. I was dismayed that I might have to resort to such.

Senator Stevens of Alaska famously stated that the internet was a "series of tubes". I thought more people were acquainted with that quote. Sorry. (Fractious ~= persnickety)

The add-ons mentioned in your response have very poor recent reviews. WebExtension incompatibilities?

Hi Doug,

Maybe you could try to toggle the value of this preference on the "about:config" page and see if that will work for you :

browser.download.resumeOnWakeDelay

The value of this preference, measured in milliseconds, dictates how long the browser should wait after your computer returns from hibernation or sleep mode to attempt to resume any paused downloads.

If you had to change the value, then don't forget to close and restart Firefox.

But I don't think that this is what you are looking for, though. One of the extensions, mentioned on Reddit, might be worth a try (the reviews on the first add-on are indeed not very good).

And, shouldn't 'advanced-search' be visible on a search page? What's the use of there being an 'advanced-search' if no one (except you and I and the other cognoscenti :-) know about it?

If you are logged to this website then you have a bar at the top of the page that shows your login name and also includes Contributor tools. Advanced Search should be available as a possible selection.
