How do I save bookmarks with Firefox sync?

more options

I just installed Firefox Sync today and none of my bookmarks came along. I tried saving bookmarks and they don't seem to get saved.

Chosen solution

It can take some time, depending on the speed of your computer and internet. However, I've not heard of it taking several hours. You may need to try either restarting Firefox and triggering a sync again or removing your account from Firefox and logging in again.

If you go to the Firefox Account section of the Firefox settings page, you need to make sure that the Bookmarks option is selected on the devices that you want to sync bookmarks between.

Once you've done that, you may need to trigger a manual sync. To do this, press the menu button on Firefox and select the reload button next to your account name.

If you are syncing for the first time, it can take a while for everything to sync successfully because there's a lot of data to transfer and store.

Hope this helps.

Is the reload button the two arrows forming a circle next to my email address at the top of the menu? If so, the arrows are spinning continuously and there's no way for me to press it . What does the spinning mean?

Thanks!

You do not save bookmarks via Sync. Sync isn't meant to be used as a backup, so it isn't guaranteed that you can use Sync to restore bookmarks.

If you use the Time Machine or other backup then try to restore file(s) from this backup.

That's the correct button. When it's spinning, it means it's syncing your data. As I said, it may take a while the first time because it's a lot of data to share.

Thank you, Wesley. Is it unusual for the sync to take several hours? The arrows are still spinning.

You can open about:sync-log via the location bar to see if there is a recent log available. You can upload a recent log and post the link.
