When I close all the tabs, how do I get the FireFox Home (default) tab instead of automatically shutting down Firefox?

When I close the final tab, I do not want Firefox to shut down. I'd like the FireFox Home (default) tab to show instead.

Chosen solution

You can modify this pref on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing Firefox.

  • browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab = false

Don't close the last tab that is open, instead hit the Home button on the toolbar to load the Homepage.

I have a Homepage that I get when I first run Firefox. I don't want the Homepage to open when I close the final tab. I want the FireFox Home (default) tab to show, which it does when I create a new tab.

Hello krpc7, What I understand is that you want the New Tab page to show after closing the last tab ..... (?) You could open the New Tab page in a separate window, before you open another window in which you open multiple tabs. That way, when you close all tabs in that second window, you'd see the New Tab page.

Setting browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab = false in about:config does exactly what I want.
