The double blank page does not prevent me from searching just annoying - as I have to often delete the second window

Chosen solution

I spoke too soon because when I restarted the problem came back. So I downloaded the version as cor-el suggested and this seems to have solve it. Thanks cor-el

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar. [v63+] Type about:preferences#home

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display? Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want to be displayed?

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any webpage or about: page you want.

Preferences are set as follows;-

Homepage and new windows :Blank Page New Tabs : Firefox Home (default)

On start up it should only give one page BUT it gives two

Does the second page have a link?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

Thanks Fred that worked - restarted Firefox in Safe Mode without the Addons. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Also thanks to cor-el. First time I have used this community page - but you are all doing a grand job!
