how can you delete/disable (for good!) the 'spam' sub-folder?

i made the mistake of updating TB (it was 2-3 versions older, but very good)! Now, i can't get rid of the 'spam' folder, in every account. Before the update, i think it was 'junk'.

If i delete it, close TB and open it back, it's still there! Brrrr, very frustrating not to have control.

Anyway, is there a way to get rid of it for good? Or do i install the old TB? Thanks!

'Junk' is a folder created by Thunderbird and is used in Pop mail accounts for any junk mail. POP can only download emails from server Inbox. It does not get access to any other server folder. Pop accounts do not synchronise with any server folder. So 'Junk' is auto created for those emails which are downloaded and then filtered either automatically or manually.

Imap mail accounts show a virtual copy of whatever is on the server. Imap account folders sychronise with server to show what is on server. 'Spam' is a server folder, used by Imap mail accounts. You will have subscribed to see it or as is usually the case, the server will auto select for basic folders to be subscribed eg: Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Spam, Trash' etc. You cannot delete the server 'Spam' folder, but you can unsubscribe from seeing it. It is not recommended as you may miss good emails that have been accidentally put into the wrong folder. They will still be on server and may only be deleted if the server has a policy to auto empty policy on the 'Spam' folder.

To unsubscribe from seeing ot not seeing any server folder:

  • Right click on imap mail account and select 'Subscribe'.
  • A small window opens showing all subscribed folders.
  • select folder in the list and click on 'Unsubscribe' button
  • Click on OK

Restart Thunderbird.
