Sites still work OK. Other browsers working fine in this respect. Using up-to-date Mac version of Firefox on Mac OS v. 10.13.4. Seems to have happened in the last few weeks (12/1/18 today). Don't know if it corresponded with a browser update. Even the FF Preferences page seems to have changed appearance and behavior (my memory not the best :-), e.g., I'm pretty sure that the options for cookies settings would hilite on mouseover, but don't now. Options change and work though. Cursor remains as arrow. Thanks for any help.

Many thanks! Accessibility was OK, changed colors pref as you suggested and ...poof! :-) High Contrast option worked. Much appreciated!

Make sure you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Mac Accessibility settings.

Make sure you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Colors: "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above"

Try "Never" if the default "Only with High Contrast themes" isn't working.

Seems there's a hitch I didn't see till much later: Do I have to choose between having backgrounds and changing the color of visited links? I often find this very useful during searches to keep track of where I've been. When I'm set in 'colors' to get backgrounds, visited links don't change. Thanks for any help

When you disable website colors then this includes background images as well because this is a accessibility feature. Some websites use a visited color that is hardly different than the normal link color or disable the visited color altogether.

The colors you specify in Options/Preferences are by default only used when the website doesn't specify either of them. If you always want specific visited colors then a possibly is to use a code in userContent.css (:visited{}), but such code can cause issues when the link is a background image (setting a fixed background hides this image).

The code thing is over my head, so if I need color change for visited links, I guess I'll just have to adjust prefs each time. Can't Mozilla fix this, or do most users not care? Thanks.

You can search the Addons website for an extension.
