Even though check mark appears next to bookmark toolbar the toolbar does not appear. I tried safe mode with no results.

This can be caused by a problem with using Restore Previous Session as the startup setting, so if you restore the session automatically on the next start then try to disable this feature.

Hello pixelpadre,

Would you try this :

3-bar menu => Customize

Click on "Toolbars" => Bookmark Toolbar

Then Click on "Done"

Does that work  ?

This disappeared when (subsequent to updating to Firefox 63 and it working fine), I restarted my Windows 10 PC.

Nothing gets it back.

The menu bar has gone too, for me if not for you! I just restarted Firefox again, and as it loaded, the menu bar flashed, then disappeared again.

Worse. I windowed Firefox rather than full screen, to see if it allowed space for the bookmarks or menu bar. The tab bar became confused.

With the Menu Bar ticked, there is no gap at the left, and the min/window,max buttons are overlapping with the final tab and with the new tab + sign.

When I unticked Menu Bar, a gap appeared on the left of the tab bar, and the tabs re-jigged themselves, and no longer overlapped with the min, window, max buttons. Ticking or unticking Bookmarks Bar made no difference.

This could be a problem with sessionstore files.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the Firefox profile folder that stores session data.

  • delete sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore.js

You may have to rename the sessionstore-backups folder as well.

When sessionstore.jsonlz4 is deleted you lose pinned tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

if you think users are going to go thru all of this trouble to use a browser that is being ditched by more and more people everyday, think again

It could well be something like this, because Firefox had lost all of my previously opened tabs following the restart of windows. I hate it when I get something working just right, only to have it muck itself up, and I hate fiddling with profiles - it seems so arcane. I thought I'd left that behind when I moved from DR-DOS but it gets worse. I suppose at least we don't have to try and force programmes into high memory nowadays to allow them to run.

I fixed it by using the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder

Then I clicked on Refresh Firefox... - near the top right.

It closed Firefox, and trundled on for a while, reimporting things like favourites, before finally reopening. By default Menu Bar is unticked, and Bookmarks is ticked but not showing. I ticked menu bar, and it appeared. I unticked Bookmarks Bar, then ticked it again, and it appeared too.

Almost back to where I was before the upgrade to 63.0. All that is now missing is ALL OF THE ADD-ONS! That is annoying.

If this happens to you again try unchecking Restore Previous Session in Options and then restarting Firefox. Much faster and you don't lose your Add-Ons. Once everything is working again you can recheck Restore Previous Session if so desired.
