Facebook is locking up my computer when accessed through Firefox; I use the containers for FB to block tracking. Doesn't do this on other browsers.

Lately when I access Facebook through Firefox, it jams up my computer and I am forced to power cycle the machine. I use the container system to keep Facebook from tracking me. This does not happen on other browsers, I have been using Opera for the past week or so instead and no issues. Tried it in Chrome also, no problems. By jams up I mean slows everything down to a crawl, all browsers and programs become unresponsive, etc.

I also have Ghosterly running to block trackers; does this do the same work as the containers?

Hi, no Ghostery is a adblocker

As to Containers there are a few of them now so no idea which you are using.

Firefox Multi-Account Containers lets you keep parts of your online life separated into color-coded tabs that preserve your privacy. Cookies are separated by container, allowing you to use the web with multiple identities or accounts simultaneously. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/

Prevent Facebook from tracking you around the web. The Facebook Container extension for Firefox helps you take control and isolate your web activity from Facebook. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/facebook-container/

Please Test : SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Performance > Uncheck to view)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?

Ok so first of all, I was speaking of the Facebook Container, to keep FB from tracking my web activities. Since running in Safe Mode, I have not seen the behavior. So I guess the next step is to add one extension at a time to see which one gums up the works? I hope it's not the container. I don't run many more; FB container, Ghosterly, the one that turns FB to a dark screen and I think a theme.

So I had Ghosterly, Facebook Container, Easy Screen shot, and Facebook color changer. Right now I just have Ghosterly and Facebook Container active and so far no problems. But I really like the color changer as I have light sensitivity issues and the screen shot app is great b/c I do a lot of screen shotting.
