When a tab is open in Firefox, if I hover over the "x", a pop-up rectangle comes up that says "Close tab (Ctrl+W)". I do not want these pop-ups to occur. Other pop-ups have occurred when I am typing in the body of a message field in a forum. I especially don't want that to happen. So how do I turn off these pop-up "Tips" ??

I am using Windows 8.1 with the latest version of Firefox 61.0.2

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.chrome.toolbar_tips = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
