Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

Hi update to Firefox 61.0.2 released to day https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/61.0.2/releasenotes/?utm_campaign=whatsnew&utm_medium=firefox-browser&utm_source=firefox-browser
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json or Localstore.rdf files.
Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:
- Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
- Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
- Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
- *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data
\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

I run the official Firefox on both Debian Jessie and Stretch. Firefox is up to date (63.0.3) on both system. I have tried everything suggested as to getting Firefox to open in the last known position. It works if I just minimize Firefox, but if I close Firefox and reopen it always opens in the top-left corner of the screen. It would appear that Firefox does NOT use the values stored in xulstore.json at startup. Also, Firefox does not provide a command line option to set the xpos and ypos. I suspect that this issue is due to the way the windows manager in Linux handles new windows. I can live with this, but it would seem to me that if Chrome can do it right then Firefox ought to be able to do it also.
