I opened up firefox after starting my computer and it loaded the old firefox. I didn't look at the update but it was before quantum. It was a shortcut to my install of firefox which I keep updated so I have no idea why it loaded an older version. I tried loading it in administrator mode and that got it to load as the new firefox. but now everything I had is gone. Extensions, bookmarks, history, everything. I looked through several other people's questions and tried all of the solutions that helped other people but none of them helped me. The profiles in the profile folder all have none of my stuff and there is no "old firefox" folder on my desktop.

I've gotten the bookmarks back by restoring from yesterday but everything else is still missing.

HI, that is really strange, no information was provided regarding sharing your data so I have nothing. Am glad you got your bookmarks back as that is the important thing. Always keep them safe. Open a online email account and email it to your self. Mine are 18yrs old by doing that. If you say everything is gone and you have looked in your profile for them then I would say they are gone. The Profile is not so much backwards compatible.

Please see if you can find the installer that shortcut hooked to and delete it so it can not happen again. Right Click then Properties and see where it points to. Search for any installers on your drives and delete them please, all of them.

Once done that please : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : NOTE : THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU, BACKUPS Other than always a copy of your Bookmarks.

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 61.0.1 with a Full Version Installer

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there?

I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
