Some videos won't play on Firefox but when I copy the URL and put it into chrome or edge the videos play perfectly. It says video is not supported. Do I need a new extension or plug in?

I have tried disabling all plugin in and extensions, one by one then I tried just disable all plugins and extensions and that didn't work either.

I have cleared the Firefox cache.

I have tried certain setting options like allow more process power and I have sped up my Firefox with "turbo boost max technology 3.0" to make Firefox a priority just in case it was a power issue as well.

I have made sure flash is enabled and updated.

I have even uninstalled Firefox and saved no settings then reinstalled and I still have the problem.

I'm not sure what else to do.

The picture shows firefox on the left, not working. The pic on the right shows edge playing the video just fine.

Do you have a N or KN edition of Windows 10 ? https://www.howtogeek.com/322112/what-is-an-n-or-kn-edition-of-windows/

If so then you may not have the media feature pack for that OS installed that provides codecs that some web browsers like Firefox and SeaMonkey uses on Windows to full support the HTML5 players. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-video-audio-problems-firefox-windows

You can see if you fully support HTML5 player at say https://www.youtube.com/html5

Chrome kind of cheats by coming with its own codecs.

Does the Web Console give more information about this issue?

Thank you PkShadow for your assistance. I know I have all my drivers updated but I checked my video card driver anyway and when I went to their site they said that I did have Java installed. I was shocked. I would a lot of my things work if I didn't. So I went anyway to go see maybe I needed to update my java. It turns out Firefox doesn't support java any longer. That's really a shame. I like Firefox because it's the most secure browser I can find that is regularly updated. I don't want to have to jump between browsers to get things done. I'm assuming that's why a lot of things doesn't work properly.

Here is a screen shot of what I got when I tried installing java.

Hi Joe019729, don't worry about Java if the problem is with video players. No one uses the Java plugin to play videos.

(Most sites use JavaScript. Despite the similar name, it's a totally different technology that is built into browsers. No plugin required.)

Did you get a chance to try the YouTube HTML5 diagnostic page?

https://www.youtube.com/html5

Does your Firefox support H.264 / MP4?

All modern browsers have said "Goodbye" to Java - the only browser that will still support the plugin, is Internet Explorer.

The ESR version of Firefox will stop supporting Java at the end of next month.

See : https://answers.uillinois.edu/page.php?id=82505

You could use Internet Explorer for those sites that still use Java ....

Jscher2000, it's not just videos. When I went to go update my driver on the nvidia site. I had to run their program on their site so they can detect my system and tell me automatically what video driver I needed. That program wouldnt run without java either. Not having java has now become an issue, now that I'm researching it. Edge doesn't even support java either and I'm not downloading Chrome. I have lost all trust in most things google. Give me a second and I will test out that youtube html5 and i'll let you know how that goes.

jscher2000, I have tested firefox on the site you suggested. I have everything supported. I uploaded a screen shot. My drivers on my computer are all updated. Nothing.

When I restart firefox in safemode the site I originally said now works. I tried to restart firefox after and it doesnt work in normal mode. The I tried manually disabling all my extenstions and plugins and went and tried the site again. It did NOT work. Just to be sure i went back in safemode and it worked in safemode.

I'm not sure what is the next step I should take.

You should not disable the plugins.

According to your system details you have five extensions installed (only one active), among which NoScript - if that one was enabled, it might be the culprit ......

I disabled those when I first ran into the problem but they turned out not to be my issue. I just never re-enabled them.

When I view the site in a private window with Tracking Protection enabled, the Tracking Protection feature seems to block the video. Turning off Tracking Protection allows it to load. I have attached screenshot with the "shield" icon circled where I made that change. Could that be what's happening on yours?

Awesome. That worked @jscher2000. Now I only have one other problem. So I make a new question for that or do I put it here.

Trying to figure out this issue. Now I don't know how to run apps on pages that require java. Like in the nvidia site. I'll post screen shots.

I know how to fix video. Now what about app like the one in the screen shot?

Site is https://www.geforce.com/drivers

The app i'm talking about is in the bottom circled in red.

first pic is what at see to start second pic is it trying to run 3rd pic it tells me java is needed 4th pic is what happens when i click on the java icon and it send me to where it says browsers don't support java any longer.

Are these apps just worthless now? I tried turning off the protection like i did with the video and it didn't work.

more options

Oh, the app in the Nvidia site doesnt work in safe-mode either. Are those type of apps just dead then?

Java is not needed for any videos to run as your trying to use Java for OS/Hardware detection instead of manually selecting what you have to download drivers is another issue. Try the autodetect in IE if you can, if you have Java installed on system.

For a long while now only IE and the legacy Firefox 52 ESR has allowed other NPAPI Plugins to still run like the vulnerable Java Plugin from Oracle. Chromium, Chrome, and Opera dropped support of NPAPI Plugins completely back in September 2016 which includes the Java

The legacy Firefox 52 ESR is almost EOL as 52.9.0esr was the last major update released June 26 and will be EOL on Sept 5th when only 62.0 Release and 60.2.0esr are Released.

Even Oracle is in process of discontinuing their vulnerable NPAPI Java Plugin as Java 9 does not come with it.

When you say ESR version you need to be specific as in 52 ESR as ESR currently refers to 60.0 ESR (currently at 60.1.0esr) since the 60.0 ESR was released on May 9.

You're absolutely right, James - hence the link to that article, in which it is specified .....

Yes, Java applets that run only in the Java plugin are pretty much limited to Internet Explorer now.

Thank you everyone for your replies. It made it very easy for my to diagnose and bring to ya relevant questions back. This was very helpful troubleshooting for problem and for me to solve issues in the future on my own.

Also, jscher2000 thank you for the quick responses and for all your help. I appreciate it very much. Now I don't have to flip flop browsers or leave Firefox entirely because video is a major issue for me. Firefox is my favorite browser for almost 7 years.

Again, Thank you all.
