I cannot send emails with Mozilla Thunderbird on pc anymore, works fine on cell phone and on mail provider website.
Have checked providers settings, port 465 with SSL/TSL, on outgoing server. All is correct. Tried changing account password, no change. Could send like 6 emails and then the seventh did not work. Message says that my password is incorrect. It started two days ago. Tried turning off my antivirus program and firewall - no change.
Asked provider, Bredbandsbolaget, for support, but since the email works on their portal page they referr back to my email client.
I am getting quite upset. Never had any problems for the last ten years and now this.
Grateful for help! Best regards Ihateproblems

You may have hit a limit Bredbandsbolaget is imposing for sending messages.
Asked provider, Bredbandsbolaget, for support, but since the email works on their portal page they referr back to my email client.
This is the typical clueless response of a low payed call center support person, just following a script. Webmail infrastructure is independent from POP/IMAP/SMTP servers. Therefore, if webmail works, this isn't an indication that there are no other problems at the provider end.
Thank you for your reply.
Called my provider support again today. But they insist on that the problem lies at the Mozilla Client as all is good on their end. Must try to get support from Mozilla. Maybe they can reset something?
Still same thing, outgoing messages cannot be send since the login failed. If I cannot solve this I have to abandon Mozilla as a client.

re :Tried changing account password, no change. Could send like 6 emails and then the seventh did not work. Message says that my password is incorrect.'
When you changed password, I presume you logged onto your webmail account using a browser and changed the password.
Did you then change the password in Thunderbird so it now has the updated new password?
- Menu icon > Options > Options > Security > 'Passwords' tab
- click on 'Saved Passwords' button
- click on 'Show Paswords' button
- You should have two lines for mail account, incoming and outgoing.
- Right click on each line and select 'Edit Password'
- completely clear old password and enter the new one.
- click on 'Close'
- click on 'OK
- Restart Thunderbird.

Hello and thanks Toad-Hall!
Did as you asked on the first reply.
On your second reply, did as you described, to no avail: "Det gick inte att skicka meddelandet. Meddelandet kunde inte skickas med hjälp av utgående server (SMTP) smtp.bredband.net av okänd anledning. Kontrollera att dina inställningar för utgående server (SMTP) är korrekta och försök igen." Google translate: The message could not be sent. The message could not be sent using outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.bredband.net for unknown reason. Make sure your outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.
One thing was not in the menu as you described: I did not have two lines for mail account, incoming and outgoing. I just had the pop. one. After doing what you said I have two lines, one for pop and one for smtp.
Me and my woman use both our emails from Bredbandsbolaget in the same Mozilla Client application, and it is the same thing with her email.
I set up a gmail client today with my settings for bredbandsbolaget email, it works fine. So I suspect that there really is something wrong with my mozilla client. I also checked my Avast-program, but the setttings seem fine, and turning security off did nothing.
Also, Bredbandsbolagets support said that this was not a common or newly occuring problem for any other customer using Mozilla than me.
Really appriciate all the help I get!!!
Modified
BTW, the last mail that made it out did so on the 2:nd of may, 6 pm Swedish time.
You mention you have two pop mail accounts. I would therefore expect it normal to see two outgoing servers; one for each mail account.
Check that each mail account /email address is using the specific and correct outgoing server for that email address.
- Right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
- This opens the 'Account Settings' window.
- On the left, at the bottom, click on 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)'
How many outgoing servers are listed? There should be two.
- select the top one. Note: 'User Name' = mail account email address.
- click on 'Edit'
- 'Description': Type in something that you can use to help you idenitfy which server is which for that mail account email address eg: Personal - Work - Your NAME in capitals. etc.
This information has nothing to do with the server, but is very helpful when trying to work out which server is which when you have several identical smtp outgoing servers. I have added an image as an example to show what I'm talking about.
- click on 'OK'
- Do the same for the other outgoing server.
If you only have one outgoing server with only one username/email address, then you need to create a second one for the other email address/mail account. Although server settings are the same, the username and password will be different.
- Click on 'Add' and complete the details, making sure the 'Description' field says eg: 'Wife's Account' or first part of email address etc.
- click on 'OK' to save the added or edited outgoing server.
Now make sure each outgoing smtp server is being used by the correct mail account. I have added an image as an example to show what I'm talking about.
- In left pane select the mail account name/email address.
- bottom right you will see the 'outgoing server (SMTP)'; click on the drop down and select the correct one for that email address.
You will notice how helpful the description field will be.
- Do the same for the other pop mail account/email address.
- click on 'OK' to save and close Account Settings.
Recheck the saved passwords in Options.
Confirm you have two lines for each pop mail accounts, that is Four lines in total. Two 'mailbox://' and two 'smtp://' and all the passwords are correct.
Restart Thunderbird.
I have two outgoing servers, renamed them so they are easy to identify. One for me and one for her. One is in bold and is called standard by the system.
Followed you steps, it is the correct outgoing server for each of our email accounts.
BUT NOW WE ARE ON TO SOMETHING: Then when entering Options, there is only one line per email: mailbox://pop.bredband.net
There are no rows at all with smtp. Not there. Gone. Puf.
How to proceed?
If you attempt to send, do you get a prompt to enter password ? If yes, enter the password and select the checkbox for Pasword Manager to remember the passwords. then click on ok
Do you use a product like CCleaner? If yes, it could be deleting session files etc. Please make sure that CCleaner does not have access to any Thunderbird file or folder.
Yes I had to fill in my password, but even when doing so the email didn´t send. And the password was never there the next time I tried.
Did not use any product like CCleaner.
BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOW GONE! I got a message from Mozilla that urged me to install the latest update. When it was finished, I could send mail again, after filling in my password one final time.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR TIME AND EFFORT TOAD-HALL!!!
I guess it was a problem at Mozilla´s end all along. :-)
