however in order to better understand your problem ("firefox no longer works") you'd probably need to describe in more detail what's going wrong. what are you trying to do - what are the symptoms you're seeing (any error messages, etc.)?

OK, I have been using Firefox for 20 years and the problem started when Firefox asked me to update an older version on my Toshiba Laptop running Win 10. I knew better but I did a download of the "New and Improved" version. Then Firefox would not boot. I tried another download, still no Joy. Then I went into the computer and erased ANY file with Mozilla or Firefox in its name. I then tried an all new install and it tells me that Firefox is running and I have to stop it before I can install. So now I have to run my much hated Microsoft Edge that doesnt work well at all because I cannot boot Firefox and I cannot re install it and though the computer thinks it is running, it is NOT

ok, please try downloading the full offline installer for your system & language from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ if it won't install you could try to reboot your system once and run the setup file immediately afterwards. if you still get the message that firefox is already running then i'd recommend a full scan of your system with various different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner & eset online one-time scanner.

if you want to fully reset your firefox user settings, you could hit windows-key+R and open "%appdata% - in the folder that opens, rename the "Mozilla" entry to "Mozilla.old"...

Hi, sorry having issues. To stop Firefox from running you need to pull up/Search Win10 for Task Manager and close any running processes. Note : Since Firefox is now a multi-processor and Multi-thread Browser it is possible to view more than 1 event of Firefox running as extensions and sandbox and tabs use will now be seen running.

You did good with pulling/deleting all Firefox Folders as that makes a nice clean install. What did you do about your Profile folder where bookmarks and passwords and stuff reside ?

Note : there are 2 version of Firefox you can install and that is possibly Firefox Quantum 57+ as I do not know what you had before, will go with that and provide you the info you need for that one after have stopped Firefox from running via the Task Manger.

If still have trouble boot Windows 10 into Safe Mode

Then stop Firefox if still running in the Task Manager.

Reinstall with Current Release of Firefox 59.0.3 with a Full Version Installer

Or since this is a older Toshiba Laptop with low amount of ram you can install the Extended Release Version 52.7.4esr It will continue to get security updates until June 2018, and you can download and install it from this page:

Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after June 2018. The way forward : Firefox 52.9.0esr out on June 26 (same time as 60.1.0esr) will be the last major update for Firefox 52 ESR apart from any 52.9.x esr updates for security or allowed stability fixes. Quantum Based : Firefox 60.2.0esr will be out Aug 21 and Firefox 52 ESR will be EOL then. So people will have to upgrade to 60.2.0esr to keep getting security updates if they have not manually upgraded to 60.x.o ESR already. Firefox 60 ESR will require Windows 7, 8, 10.

57+ Optimize/Check that if you would : please Copy/Paste about:preferences#privacy into the Address Bar then Enter. Go down to Heading Permissions and at the bottom that heading please make sure there is a Check Mark in the box for Prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser. and : please go up to General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 or higher, go back down, find the sweet spot. Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

Got firefox restored!!!! Thanks. But I cannot find an import function to get my bookmarks off of Microsoft Edge. Is there one.

The taskmaster idea didnt work...until....i ran it in protected mode then every thing worked perfectly
