Firefox Update from 56.0.2 to 58.0.2 hangs at 39.4 of 40.0 Mb, never completes. Tried several times including prior and subsequent reboots of both Firefox and Windows 7 Pro. All to no avail.

There are two routes:

  • Help > About Firefox > Check for updates.
  • Tools > Options > General > Firefox Updates.

Doesn't make a difference either. I would like to update Firefox without the risk of losing my very many Bookmarks and many add-ons.

Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Thanks, Fred. Problem is solved. But I must be honest: I cannot tell whether it was the removal of Flash or the fact that in the meantime Firefox 59 has been released.

And I have a question regarding your reply: I thought Firefox had banned Flash? If indeed so, why should I re-install it after the Firefox Update?
