That's very weird! Try creating a test profile, to see if the problem still occurs. See Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

Would you mind sending us a screenshot of what you're seeing? For instructions, see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?.

Right now, my guess it that what you're seeing is items added to your browsing history, although I'm not sure what bar you're referring to.

If you do not want to do a full Firefox refresh just yet, you could first try doing a toolbar area reset. The "Restore Defaults" button for that is at the bottom of the Customize panel. See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

Perhaps there is a cross-up in the Places database. Does it help at all to use this function:

Open the Troubleshooting Information page using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

This is near the bottom, so it's convenient to use Find (Ctrl+f) to search for integrity which should bring up the Places Database Verify Integrity button.

If you run that, is there any improvement? It may not clear up past problems, but does it prevent further additions?

Thanks so much, it helped by deleting all profiles and making a new one.
