I use pop e-mail and leave messages on the server, but when I delete a message in Thunderbird, it is automatically deleted on the server; why is that?

I use Thunderbird as my client and I choose to leave messages on the server, but when I delete a messages in Thunderbird I later find that they have automatically been deleted on the server. How is my mail host server getting that information, and why is it happening? This is not necessarily bad, but I don't understand what is happening behind the scenes. I thought that using pop would make receiving my mail essentially a one-way process. Thanks.

This is a setting in Thunderbird. Go to the menu (press Alt or F10) and choose Tools > Account Settings > [pop account] > Server Settings.

Check under Server Settings. You probably have "Leave messages on server" checked, but also "Until I delete them".

If you uncheck that option, locally deleted messages will be kept on the server.

OK, thank you. You were correct; I did have the "Until I delete them" checked. I will check to see if that corrects the problem. I have done it the same way for years without this occurring until recently. It seems counter-intuitive, especially since they appear to have reversed the previous action for the same setting. I appreciate your help.
