How do I turn off device sharing? It removes e-mail messages from my I phone. I dont want that to happen

Assuming you've set up your account as POP, you've got two options:
- check the option to leave messages on the server in your Thunderbird account settings.
At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button 
> Options > Account Settings
- Set up the account as IMAP instead.
