I've noticed issues with firefox slowness lately. I see the "firefox is not responding" several times a day. I've also noticed 40 to 50 network connection (In TCPVIEW) when Firefox isn't even running. To confirm, yes, that's what I said, I don't have Firefox open yet I see between 40 and 50 network connections in TCPVIEW. I switched to Firefox as my primary browser many, many years ago when Internet Exploder became the bloated monstrosity it is today. At this point I"m considering switching to Opera, or another browser that's not quite so problematic. FF version: 57.0.2 OS: Win 7 Pro RAM: 32 GB CPU: AMD FX-8370-8core, 4ghz.

What site are you at when this happens? Any addons?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

It doesnt seem to be any specific site. I'll test today and tomorrow as time permits, and record URLS.

If you see internet connections when Firefox isn't running then you have other software that (tries to) connect to internet.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
