Losing (login-) connection with a site on a new tab

more options

I am using Firefox version 58.01 on my PC,

When I am logged in on a particular site and I use the key combination "alt + enter" on the address bar to open a new tab, I lose the login connection with that site on that new tab.

That was not the case in the old Firefox version (version 56 and earlier).

It happens for example on the site https://ello.co/ Ello is a worldwide community of artists. I use the site regularly.

Is it a bug? Or what can I do to keep the connection in such a case. Do I need to change a setting in Firefox (config) preferences?

Other browsers, such as "Google Chrome", "Opera" and "Microsoft Edge", have no similar problems with the login connection with Ello.

Is there anyone who can help me solve this problem?

PC: Windows 10, versie 1709, 16299, desktop Intel® Core i5

Could you explain what happens in a little more detail? For example:
  • You get a message that the site is not available, even though you are using the site in another tab
  • The page loads, but it shows you logged out, even though you are logged into the site on another tab
  • Something else
Do you use any add-ons related to private tabs or container tabs that could maybe explain why the tabs seems to be strangers to one another in the same window? (I think that normally, Alt+Enter should work just fine in Firefox 58.)

Thank you 'jscher2000' for your reply. You’re answer helped me by solving the problem!

This is wat happened: The page loads, but it shows you logged out, even though you are logged into the site on another tab

I've tried it without loaded addons (clean start). The result was the same

But then I looked at the settings and I saw that my history setting was set at ‘never keep’. I have set them on and the problem is solved!

Thank you again!

Do you know if there are command line options available for history-saving?

Until another user with a login on that site tries what your saying it will be hard to verify this problem.

Hi HenRea, thank you for reporting back.

Do you know if there are command line options available for history-saving?

I don't know of any. However, it's possible for optional configuration files to override the normal settings, such as a "user.js" file. (See: How to fix preferences that won't save)

This article documents the command-line options: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozilla/Command_Line_Options
