I want to move all of my saved logins & passwords from the new version, but I no longer see a way to export and Password Exporter Add-on is not compatible. Thank you!

Hi,

Firefox doesn't have an exporter built-in, but you can import your data from within Safari. In Safari, go to the File menu, then "import from", and you should see a "Firefox" option.

Also, if you're having problems with Firefox, feel free to make another post here and we can try to help you solve your problem.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! Will I need to download Firefox first and sign in?

In order for Safari to find your data from Firefox, the data will need to be on your local computer, so if it's currently only in your Firefox account, then you would need to download Firefox and sign in.

Since you are posting with Windows 7 and not Mac OSX. The old Safari 5.1.7 released on May 9, 2012 was the last version for Windows so it is not recommended to be used.

Firefox 58 uses key4.db instead of key3.db used previously, so it isn't very likely that Safari can import the Firefox login data.

Thank you all. I plan to purchase the new Mac in the next few days. It seems like I will be able to install FireFox, sign in, and then have access to all of my passwords/logins. I will try that. Not what I had hoped for, but at least I won't lose it all. Thank you again!!

You can backup files in your current profile folder and copy them to the Firefox profile folder you will use on that Mac.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can copy files like these with Firefox closed to the profile folder to recover specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved form data
  • logins.json and key4.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • cert9.db for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other Site Preferences
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs
