Up front: I don't know any other way...

Right now, adding a bookmark requires a few clicks: it is a bit hidden. I may be overlooking it, but like the title says: is there a kind of [Add Bookmark]-button?

Thanks.

Hi, there should be a star at the right-hand end of the address bar Bookmarks in Firefox; if it's missing, click on Restore Defaults as shown in Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

If that doesn't help, I'm going to suggest you try Refresh, but since it can very occasionally cause issues of its own - to be on the safe side, before you do it, I would backup your bookmarks: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Backup. Or, Export Bookmarks to HTML, and save them to somewhere convenient on your computer. Note that Backup will overwrite any existing bookmarks when you restore them. For extra safety, I'd suggest making both a Backup - which creates a JSON file, and an HTML file. You can instead backup all your data by copying your Profile, but this requires some technical expertise - Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences so you might want to make a note of any add-ons. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Ahum . . .

I am a champion in looking at the wrong place, folks...

Ai! I started out already with the C64 but feel such an awful newbie now.

Didn't ask anything right  ?  :-) Nonetheless - thanks to you both.

Am using the 'Add to bookmarks' behind the 3-dots of Chrome - never looked any further. Chrome also has this 'star' thing - as said, wasn't aware of it. Am now trying out the new Firefox. Was using FF since 2004 but stopped using it as one way or the other things weren't working properly and I ended up spending too much time on trying to solve things whereas with Chrome things just worked. So, with some 'pain' I shifted to Chrome. The new FF version looks nice, so that's the reason for giving it a try. For me 'speed' isn't important: 90% of the reviews is about speed. For me it is more about things like how it synchronizes with FF for Android, the autofill of passwords on Android, the security of the passwords (encrypted?), how the Android version works. (either Chrome desktop-Chrome Android or FF Desktop+FF Android) Anyway, I asked a few questions about the Android FF in the Android area.

Sorry for the long background story.

Thanks for this -- is there ANY way to make the star button default to "bookmarks menu" instead of other bookmarks? I don't use the other folder and want them all to show on the bottom of my menu, under all my folders.

I used to use the FF toolbox buttons extension and there was a great "quick bookmark" icon that was one click add to the menu with no popup. Miss that!

  1. This question is already answered. Next time please ask a new question.
  2. This extension adds an ability to change the default folder.
