font blurry and jaged
The fonts on certain web sites appear blurry in Firefox 52 ESR on Windows XP SP3 even though clearfont is enabled. Other web browsers on the machine such as Chrome do not exhibit this behavior. I have already reset the profile and even completely uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox but the problem remains unresolved. I believe it might be a bug. A copy of what it looks like is attached in the image file below.

Could be. Depends on their code if using fonts they are setting then yes.

Did you check your video resolution as well as - if you set the display not at "Native resolution" you will get blurry desktop.
My screen resolution is set to its native resolution. Also, this problem only occurs on a handful of websites I have come across. The fonts on most websites work just fine. I was wondering if its maybe an issue rendering whatever type of font these particular websites are using. In the example above, this is the Opera forums and as you can see the fonts aren't displayed properly.

Firefox 52+ has changed from Cairo to Skia for canvas/content rendering.
- When not using Direct2D on Windows, Skia is used for content rendering
You can modify these gfx.*.azure.backends prefs on the about:config page to revert to the old font rendering swap the skia, cairo order to cairo, skia or remove the skia and leave cairo.
- gfx.canvas.azure.backends = direct2d1.1,cairo,skia
- gfx.content.azure.backends = direct2d1.1,cairo,skia
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
