Hi there,

I have Firefox 56 (and will never upgrade to 57 for its design and incompatibility with Win 7 that I like). I have installed a Semi Transparent theme https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/addon/semitransparent/ but it resets from time to time at the start. Simultaneously my custom settings (mainly scale) for some sites reset too. Looks like some "optimization" process makes it without asking for my contest - maybe it knows, I would never permit this ))

Is there any option to correct this? Again - I am not going to upgrade or update.

Best

Vlad

sorry, I mentioned twice that I hate 57 for at least two sufficient reasons:

1. I hate the "Win-10" like design, it irritates me

2. Firefox 57 is terribly slow and unreliable on my Win 7 that I also do not want to upgrade.

Please let me know if there is any solution that works with Firefox 56.

I know, I have no answer for 56. I can also see did not bother to look at the capabilities to change what you hate in the above URL's . It is limitless.........

sad enough ((( hope there are somebody else to help

Site-specific zoom levels shouldn't ever be reset by Firefox for any reason. It is an option when clearing history to clear Site Preferences, but that should be deselected (unchecked) by default.

Firefox also should not reset the theme on its own.

Do you use any software like Advanced SystemCare or CCleaner that might touch Firefox settings files?

more options

Yes, you are right, I do use the CCleaner. However, I keep all of the boxes but "cash" and "cookies" unchecked. Among the latter, I also keep the ones set by Mozilla and Firefox, among others. Should I keep any other ones too?

One of my suspicions is that this may be some Windows-optimizing services that "reduce complexity" without my contest

more options

Note that the settings reset not every time I run CCleaner or restart Firefox. So far I failed to catch any tendency in this random resetting

Do other settings return to "factory default" such as toolbar layout, home page, or anything else? If so, it sounds like a Refresh. Refresh moves your settings folder up to your desktop inside an Old Firefox Data folder, so if that is happening, the evidence would accumulate there.

Otherwise... ??

No, this is not the case, fortunately.

Actually, I may have been somewhat inaccurate while naming the topic. The theme often resets in the appearance but remains allegedly turned on in settings. I have to manually remove it and reinstall to make it active again. However, sometimes it has gotten reset in the settings too.

Regardless whether you upgrade or not this isn't anyone else problem besides yours. But should problem occur from FF56 don't blame others here. Aero was a W7 only it no longer exists in W10 there is something close but Aero is gone. Also W7 will loose support and then you will have both disadvantages at hand "Outdated" O/S and now even less Secure Browser that will catch a Malware because it can no longer protect. Sooner or laters one of those outdated Software will force you and hopefully before it catches a malware. I didn't like the changes either but since I now have W10 on all system the choice was clear to be more secure O/S and Browser or pay some to repair it. As to the themes unless the creators update to work with the FF57 it will not run and most likely be a security hole for your system.

I really hate Win 10-like design and do blame -- of course, not you, but the developers -- for ignoring my (and yours, as I understand, and many others') preferences. So I will never upgrade, prefer to run AVAST instantly and some anti-malware from time to time - which is anyway needed, as it sometimes do catch malware nevertheless the system and browser are still supported.

Hope they will recognize their mistake sooner or later and bring back both Aero and rounded corners.

The problem with Semi-Transparent theme is that it sometimes fails to load properly. Hope to solve it. My comfort matters to me

Just got it reset once again and made an experiment. I tried to turn the theme off, and then on. For the first time it had no effect, for the second time I was asked to restart the Firefox. I did, and then sucessfully turned on the theme.

Hope this can help to diagnose the problem

@Vald_D, be lucky Windows 10 was about the closet we got back to W7 considering W8 debacle. If you look online going off topic here but there are now plenty of custom program that will change W10 back to W7 and I use some of them to restructure W10 close as I can to W7 and it works as I want. Just like you said they listened but still choose to mess up what was good but then again-I had to go into the wild to find the customization to make it work for me.

well, I do not fully trust to such kind of side software - it was not a single case when I eventually caught some malware or adware in it. Although you are right, in case I will have to upgrade my PC, I will be forced to choose something of this sort. But somebody told me that the MS has some plans to make it an option in some future versions of Windows. Let's see..

But as of now we have sad reality that Firefox changed interface in the same manner. And my favorite theme for some reason works incorrectly even with 56 version.

BTW, 57th works awfully with Win7, and this is another one (and sufficient) reason to stick with 56th

Try reading the URl's I gave as there are unlimited ways to change Firefox's look and feel to make it your own. This is now out of the URl's gave you and is now a Extension : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/theme-font-size-changer/ This can be used already in USER Chrome to Make Transparent the Toolbar : Transparent turn off highlight of Address Bar

/* Transparent toolbar backgrounds */

  1. nav-bar, #PersonalToolbar {
 background-color: transparent !important;
 background-image: none !important;

} /* Remove top line on nav bar */

  1. nav-bar {
 box-shadow: none !important;

} ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So code is there.

If needing help with Firefox 57 on Win 7 running badly, ask as there are ways to fix this.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

thank you, but I have no problems with font size and family - fortunately, Firefox use to have very good settings on this, that is one of the main reasons why I prefer it. In any case this add-on fails to set for some reason. Just nothing happens when I press the bar - I tried with old version too, the same result.

Maybe indeed there is some conflict between zoom and the theme, although sometimes it resets alone, and sometimes - along with zoom settings for some sites (Facebook, but maybe some others too)

Sorry, I do not fully understand where exactly should I edit the code. But it seems to me that your advice is related NOT to "Semi-Transparent" THEME, but to the option of having the "toolbar" window semi-transparend with the shadow. This option can be - again, if I understand correctly what are you talking about - set in the normal regime too.
