Why did firefox suddenly change the opening page t move me into a search engine caled searchassist, that i didn't request and dont want. How do I restore previo
When I downloaded the latest version of Firefox the opening page changed to a quite pleasant, modern format. Suddenly this week the opening page changed and I was arbitrarily shifted to a search engine called SearchAssist.net. Why? Ho do I restore the previous settings?
Chosen solution
Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions.
Look for and remove SafeSearch, SearchAssist Incognito, FileConverter Addon, SearchLock, DiscreteSearch, WebSearch, Findwide Search Engine
Now do the same in the computer’s Programs Folder.
Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the Applications folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Aww, that's sweet - but I didn't do anything to help you.
All I did was post just about the same thing Fred did, only way longer, that's why it took me so long to post it - too late; Fred beat me to it.
I'm going to post part of what I said in the reply I removed anyway, because it might be important :
Your system details show an extension called 'Start 1.3' - did you install that yourself ?
It looks suspicious to me (could be malware) .......
