There are currently 35 emails waiting to be downloaded into my inbox, but only one gets downloaded at a time everytime I press the Get Messages tab. As you know, normally all emails will be downloaded into my inbox with the press of this tab. However this one email is repeatedly downloaded everytime time I press the tab, and I can't get past this email. The email that I can't seem to get past is not a malicious email, and is bonafide, so I don't believe this particular email is causing the problem.

I haven't altered any email settings on my desktop computer for some years now, and I run Thunderbird on my laptop, although I note I am running version 45.8.0 now, but this is now updating as I write this (as soon as I pressed the About Thunderbird tab it performed an automatic update, so I hope I don't run into the same problem on my laptop). On my laptop my emails are receiving normally, as well as on my iphone. In anddition my wife's email, which is connected through my account is also receiving emails normally.

In other words I never had any problem like this before. As I have not changed any settings on my email or on my computer, I am bringing this issue to your attention, and am asking is there a problem with the latest update that is causing this issue? Dennis

Chosen solution

An email message doesn't have to be intrinsically bad or evil to cause a problem. It may be malformed (i.e not in strict compliance with the relevant standards) and so leaves Thunderbird under the impression that there is more to come, so the message doesn't get signed off as downloaded.

The usual cure to to visit your email provider's webmail site in your browser and deal with the message there. If it's important to get it into Thunderbird, try forwarding it to yourself.

Wow, problem solved. Following your instructions I located the offending email within my webmail server and deleted it. Then I went straight back into Thunderbird and pressed the Get Messages tab, and presto the rest of my emails were downloaded. Than you very much for your prompt response, and service. Outstanding effort.
