I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X270 Core i7-7500 CPU, Intel HD Graphics 620, 8Gb Ram, Windows 10 Home x64, Firefox 57.01, and WebRoot Antivirus,

After I Install Firefox and start Firefox I get a blank screen with a rectangular box in the middle, If I wait a considerable amount of time eventually the Blank Rectangle fills with Default Browser Question, and the Blank screen in the background opens with the home page.

Now if I exit Firefox and start it again, it works fine, Also when I reboot and start it works fine.

Before I understood that I had to wait I would terminate Firefox with task manager, and I would always get Firefox to start with the blank screen. So the solution seems to be to just wait the very long time when you first run firefox,

I think I have fixed it I went into Webroot Antivirus control panel and told it to not block the Firefox start page.

I want to thank everyone's suggestions for guiding me into finding the solution, which was that the Webroot Antivirus must have thought wrongly that there was malware on the Start Page that I was using. Webroot was doing it's job of blocking any Firefox activity causing a blank screen. It would have been nice if Webroot had left a message that it had blocked the page, but it did not.

Thank you all.

Give this a try please : This is the best way to uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.1 with a Full Version Installer https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I had left firefox running for over a day and the blank screen did not change.

I now have uninstalled Firefox and deleted any mozilla firefox files in Program Files. Download and installed the 64bit Current Release Firefox 57.0.1 with a Full Version Installer

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ and when I start firefox I get a blank screen see attached. So I crashed firefox and select Safe mode by holding down the shift key I get Firefox Sorry Screen. I hit Restore Session and I get the home page. I exit Firefox Safe mode and start Firefox normally and now get the blank screen again.

For future it would be helpful before you post to turn on from inside Firefox send info to Mozilla. This gives us a look at your extensions, video card info and drivers. Nothing more.

So Please update your Video Card Drivers as old and or corrupted drivers can do weird and not so wonderful things with Firefox including this issue.

If you could try safe mode again please or if not done so please : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode by holding down the <Shift> , and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there? Did you loose the Black Screen ?

If so disable all Extensions while in safe mode. Restart Firefox and see if comes up. If does enable and test each Extension and test until get the issue.

If that does not work please do this if can or in Safe Mode : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile

Short of that if have a copy of your bookmarks and passwords then delete the Profile folder and anything else up in C:\User for Firefox or Mozilla Firefox when do a complete uninstall and reinstall again. You have the full Version Installer already.

Also possibly needs a little help.

Run DISM if you can.

The only extension is the Anti Virus Webroot Filtering Extension 1.5.0.6 and because I am in safe mode it is already disabled, But When I start normally there is no change to disable it as the screen is blank with no menu.

So you are saying that things worked as they should and you did not have a Black Screen is that correct ?

If so need to go back to Safe Mode and Disable your A/V seems like there were some issues as late as 2wks ago in the forum but no results or updates on info about it anywhere I could find.

Would uninstall it if it is working normal in safe Mode.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

That was very good work. Well done.

You should remember that disabling an add-on does not do anything to the main program.
