Yesterday suddenly all of my maps and mails have disappeared. I've tried to make a profile back-up and to restore that but without result Was it to late to make now a back-up after that event ? What can i do more? I'm lucky all the mails where stored as a file in a map just before!

usually having folder just disappear in an IMAP account is caused by connectivity issues. just after an update this is often a firewall component in a security suite blocking the new version of Thunderbird.

Press F10 to make the main menu visible if it is not showing along the top of the window. Select Tools then activity manager.

now click the get mail button. what appears in the activity manager. You might have to use Alt +Tab to bring the activity manager window back to the front so you can see it.

Sorry but it don't work. There was a missing word in my complaint. All my maps and mails are the self-made maps with about 50 mails! the others are still there. I had al reddy the same thing with windows 7. There was a windows map in wich i found the mails back. Now i'm working since a short period with windows 10 and i don't know the path or the map, If it is the same! Will you please also note the following: i found that all the mails not only appearing in Thunderbirth, buth also and at the same time still in the windows 10 mail. Is that correct? Thunderbirth is set as my mail operating system.

Was there some sort of error message? Given the instructions were simply to open a dialog and see what is said after you chose to check your mail, your response is incomprehensible to me.

Dear Matt,

For a better understanding I like to reexplain you my problem from the beginning on. I have a new computer with windows 10 since only a few months. The E-mail program from Win 10 is in my opinion a very bad one. Therefore I changed it for your Thunderbird program and I ‘m very satisfied. After only a few days, on the 18 of November, I supported you with a bank transfer of 20€. As a reference I gave my E-Mail address together on that document.(reuscortl@telenet.be) My browser program is also Firefox!

On your Thunderbird there are in my point of view two types of maps; first the normal ones like mails in, mails sent, and recycle bin. From my provider these are all configurated as IMAP.

On the other hand there are maps that you make you yourself. I had several such maps and they are mostly case oriented and named. In these maps I had over 50 mails. It where only those maps who disappeared suddenly. The first ones where not affected and are still present.

So with your fist solution it was very clear; I recalled each time the maps from the first kind but the other ones did not return. They are always lost. Meanwhile I have found also in the nearness of the Thunderbird profiles a map “crashes” with a crash file in. This file was made at the very particular moment of the disappearing!

I also told you that for me it is the second time that I have such a disappearing case in more than 12 years E-mail experience. The first one was only 4 moths ago on my Win 7 computer. At that time really al the maps of both kinds went away. The first ones could be retrieved via IMAP. Those from the second kind have I refund with a great lot of luck. With that lot of luck I found a Windows map in which al the missing files (about 160!) Al stored at precise the same time. But is was not a pretty to recover them. Al the names where gone and replaced by an hexadecimal figure. The could also not be opened at that spot. I had to export an store them first in a other map. So they could be opened but it where no longer real e-mails the could no longer be sent and so on.

Now there are two things of interest for me: first I have learned to make on a regular base a back-up of my profiles map. Than the can be restored in a case like this. And second I like to know the path and the filename of the windows crash map in which my lost mails now are stored. I cannot believe that the are total lost, they must be somewhere!

And last of al I asked your attention for the following thing. As a matter of safety I stored al my e-mails in a map outside of Thunderbird. That makes that I have not really lost a mail but they are no longer real e-mails also. But now to the point; if I click on such a mail to open it then it comes always on the win10 mail interface and not in the Thunderbird interface. At the same time I found also that mostly al the Thunderbird mails where in the win10 mailbox. Did I something wrong? Thunderbird is set as my standard.

So that’s al folks! I did this a little bit easier and y hope that there from my English is better to understand and will lead to a solution of my problem.

Kind regards
