I upgraded Firefox and something called barisderin automatically downloaded a video player for you tube - without my knowledge. Is this malware ? Is it something Firefox allows barisderin to do?

He does have a page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/baris-derin/

Note Mozilla just approves the Extensions and hosts them on the Extension Page. Any support or questions should be directed to the Developer.

Some people are not happy with way it works like you. https://www.google.ca/search?q=barisderin&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=wzb-We6kKuKqjQPV2KKwCg

If you do not like it remove it. Possibly follow these also : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware and https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/ and https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/9573-im-infected-what-do-i-do-now/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

It is not right that Firefox updates my browser and this is automatically downloaded with the update without my permission. Does firefox allow anybody to do that? It is wrong to let anyone attach their download like that.

So now I have to download malwarebytes to get rid of it?

No idea as you are not providing a screen shot of the pop up.

I will remind you once that you are messaging with Volunteer Support. So with that thought in mind please keep your questions and answers civil, concise and with information that is useful for us to help you with your issue.

Run the programs, does not hurt to know you are clean of any malware.

Regards.

Sorry but no third-party Extensions like the ones listed at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/user/baris-derin/ comes with any Firefox internal update or download from say www.mozilla.org or www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/

The author of the extensions on https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/user/baris-derin/ did have recent version updates for some of the extensions so that could explain why you had a recent extension update.

''Thank you all for your comments. I don't have a screenshot but I did copy/paste into a word document which I can't seem to upload so I paste it below.'' there was a graphic and the name barisderin (which for some reason did not copy) and other icons to download and of course a donation button.

Congratulations! YouTube Flash Video Player installed successfully for Firefox. You can right now start using your new add-on.

YouTube Flash Video Player is a powerful tool that will let you choose Flash video player as default YouTube video player. You can also choose HTLM5 video player as default one from add-on settings. You can adjust the video player settings for YouTube from the YouTube Flash Video Player toolbar button panel. Under Video Player group box you can select Flash and HTML5 to play your YouTube videos in intended video player.

Thank you for that piece of information  !

You have made it abundantly clear that you did not download this add-on - have you removed it  ?

If you want to, you could scroll down here to : 'Report this add-on for abuse' https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-flash-video-player/?src=userprofile
