At Tools > Settings the Left Hand Panel shows the only Email Acct I use, fchar@cox.net, and under it Serv Set, Cop & Fold, Comp & Add, Junk Set, Disk Space, Ret Recipts, and Security. Under that is "fchar," with no Domain name, and note it's the same as the User Name in the Email Acct I use, and under that only Junk Set and Disk Space. It's a remnant from long ago. Then last is Outgoing Server (SMTP). I want to Delete the partial account "fchar," but under Account Actions, Remove Acct is greyed out. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can remove it?

Chosen solution

If your cox.net account uses POP then yes, your Keepers folder and its contents are stored in your profile and there wouldn't be much advantage in moving them.

If the account connects using IMAP then your messages are stored on a remote server. If you want to make sure you actually have a permanent local copy then I would strongly recommend copying them to Local Folders.

Is "Keepers" a single folder, or does it have subfolders?

If it is a single folder I would:

Make a new folder under Local Folders. (Right-click, New|Folder) Open your old Keepers folder. Select one message, and use ctrl+a to select all messages Right-click and select Move to. A sub-menu appears where you can navigate to your new folder under Local Folders.

If there are multiple sub folders inside Keepers then you can repeat this process for each of them.

What may also work is to simply drag and drop your Keepers folder to Local Folders, with the mouse. Note that this will move, not copy your Keepers folder, but it will move all your messages in one go. Personally I don't like to ask email to move large numbers of messages in one go; I'd prefer to do it in many small stages.

The fchar folder is almost certainly what was originally named "Local Folders" and cannot be deleted.

I would suggest you change its name back to Local Folders.

Thanks again. As you suggested, I have changed account name fchar to Local Folders and I haven't noticed any unexpected surprises, YET. But tell me, under the new Local Folders there are only two things listed, unchanged from before, i.e., Junki Settings and Disk Space and I have no idea why. Does this suggest anything that I should do?

As explained in the link I gave you earlier, Local Folders can be used to make local copies of email messages, and act as a common Inbox for multiple accounts. If you use it for either of these purposes then it will consume disk space and it may have to handle Junk mail. So you have settings to manage these.

Since it would act as a common store for multiple accounts, it doesn't need the other settings (which are missing) because these would be handled in the other accounts themselves.

Since you are not using the Local Folders, all this is pretty much academic and you don't need to do anything with these settings, as you won't be putting messages into it and it won't have to do anything about Junk.

Thanks, that's relevant and very informative. It turns out I do save some emails (to copy, for example, to a notebook comuter), named Keepers and it's the last listed Folder under my Email Account in the main TB screen. Is there an easy way to Move this Folder to Local Folders? Not that it makes much difference since both will be stored in Profiles, right?

Thank you. I think I'll leave my Keepers Folder, which does indeed contain many sub-Folders, alone. Now if you can just help me with my Password issue, under a different post, in appreciation I will make a cash contribution to TB.
