I cannot download firefox
When trying to download firefox, the sign-up form keeps rejecting my password

When you posted your question, your browser identified itself as Firefox 55. So if the problem is on this computer:
You don't need to create or log into a Firefox Account to use Firefox, only if you want to use the Sync service or some other Mozilla services. You can read more about that in this article: Access Mozilla Services with a Firefox Account.
Do you need to use Sync??
If you're reading to start browsing, you can close that tab and... go online as you wish. Did Firefox find your bookmarks/favorites in your previous browser? If not, check out this article on how to import them: Import data from another browser.
