Recently, my Firefox stopped automatically filling in login credentials in sign-in forms.

If I double-click the user/email field, it will usually give me a few recent options, but not the one associated with the domain I'm visiting.

- Happens for EVERY site, including this forum - I'm not in private browsing mode - Not using any privacy restrictions (form history is set to save, cookies enabled, etc.) - Haven't accessed about:config in a while, didn't change anything there - Don't have a master password set

Firefox version = 55.03 (latest stable 64 bit release for Mac OS X)

This may have happened when I updated Firefox, I'm not completely sure.

Type about:preferences#security<enter> in the address bar.

Under Logins, Turn on Remember Logins. To check the passwords you have listed, press Saved Logins.

Is the information still there?

Are you using any password managers?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

You can check these prefs on the about:config page.

signon.autofillForms
signon.autofillForms.htpp

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Started in safe mode and the issue still persists.

I set both these about:config variables to true

  • signon.autofillForms
  • signon.autofillForms.htpp

Adding to what I said above, forgot to answer your original question: no, I don't use any password managers and I use minimal add-ons/extensions.

This solved, it, must've accidentally unchecked that. Can't believe I missed it.

Glad to help. Safe Surfing.

It's possible something else could have done that.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
