I hate cookies. However I need my duckduckgo.com cookies to stay set as "allow" in the exceptions box. I have my settings so everything is wiped clean when I exit Firefox, which is great, except for the duckduckgo cookies. I have to reset all my settings on duckduckgo every time I need to use the internet. It is mind boggling .... I have been working on correcting this for some time now but I am at a loss. Is there a way to keep the duckduckgo cookies on Firefox and not any others when I quit Firefox? I hope this does not sound confusing... but it sort of is.. bleh. Thank you guys for any help you may have. Ravyn

Let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies instead of using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the cookies.
  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"
You can create an "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies. In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.
  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep

Thank you so much for your help. Because I do not want cookies from all the sites I visit (which really is not many) to stay in my system, I will try your suggestions and see how that goes. Otherwise I will just keep doing what I am doing. You guys are great . Than you all again.

Are you using any cookie add-ons? Are you using any programs that clear browser data? Are you using Private Browsing?

The "Clear history when Firefox closes" feature ignores the exceptions you created. They are only exceptions to whether sites are allowed to set cookies, and what kind of cookies they can set. They are not exceptions when it comes to clearing history (it's all cookies or no cookies for purposes of that feature).

Therefore, I endorse the method cor-el described.
