I have been working with Telus to try to find out why I cannot send emails even though I can receive them. They have changed my outgoing information and now I get an message saying out going server SMTP failed because connect to SMTP failed.

Hi Marjj, is this problem in the Firefox browser or in the Thunderbird email program? If it's Thunderbird, a moderator can move your question from Firefox to Thunderbird.

Telus has a few suggestions for the outgoing server:

smtp.telus.net on port 1025, SSL/TLS security, normal password authentication, User name = full email address.

Yet another page suggests the connection security should be none on port 1025. In that case, authentication = password transmitted insecurely.

or (not recommended), smtp.telus.net on port 465, Connection security = none, authentication = password transmitted insecurely, User name = full email address. Port 465 usually has SSL/TLS security, and this works for one Telus user.

A setting with no security may work if you are always connected to the Telus network, but SSL security means it will work even when you're on a different network, e.g. sending from a mobile device.
